Bishop Animal Shelter - SPCA of Manatee County
The Bishop Animal Shelter project included construction of a new isolation building, renovations/additions to the historic adoption building and site work to accommodate the new facilities, added storm water retention, and additional parking. The isolation building is a state of the art 27,700 SF facility for the intake, screening, treatment and any needed dental procedures or surgeries for the animals. It will include x-ray machines, surgery suites, and dental equipment. It also includes additional support functions including food preparation, laundry, and administration offices. The building is a single story structure constructed of masonry and structural steel. There are extensive MEP systems dedicated to the care and hygiene of the animals. The adoption building work included renovation of the historic portions of the building, demolition of the old kennel areas, and construction of new areas to house the animals ready for adoption. The animals served by the facility include dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, and all manner of small
animals. The primary goal of this project was to increase adoptions and provide additional educational opportunities for the public served by Bishop Animal Shelter.
