Out-of-Door Academy - Performing & Visual Arts Center
In order to accommodate an expanding enrollment and enhance educational opportunities for all students, the Out-of-Door Academy added a two-story Performing and Visual Arts Center to its Lakewood Ranch Campus. The new building includes a state-of-the-art black-box theater. The building houses various art education programs including; graphic arts design, performing arts, music, photography, ceramics, a choral and band room, scene shop and multipurpose classrooms. The building is a concrete block structure with a metal roof.
The First Floor is 14,000 SF and contains:
- Lobby/Gallery
- Black Box Theater
- Choral Room
- Band/Music Room & Band Storage Room
- Practice Rooms (3 rooms) : Small group / Individual music practice
- Ceramics Room
- Photography/Graphics Room
- Scene Shop
- Offices
The Second Floor is 11,000 SF and includes:
- Art Rooms (3 rooms)
- Sound & Lighting Control Room
- Catwalk
The Black Box Theater is 3,200 SF and seats 220. It is a square room with black walls and flat floor that is versatile and easy to change. The theater also has an elevated catwalk from which many of the technical functions of the theater, such as lighting and sound, may be manipulated. 1,800 SF of the second floor is available for future additions.
