SDMC-K-3 Class Size Reduction Buildings

This project consisted of the construction of new, six-classroom buildings at Daughtrey Elementary, Myakka City Elementary, Orange Ridge Elementary & Wakeland Elementary and a new four-classroom building at Manatee Elementary. Prior to the construction of these buildings, existing portables were removed under a separate contract. New aluminum covered sidewalks will connect the new classrooms to the existing campus areas. These new stand-alone buildings are a prototype design to eliminate portables. During the design phase the project team produced an overall design utilizing construction techniques that came in under the state’s guidelines for cost per student unit. The use of Pre-engineered metal buildings expedited the summer construction schedule to accommodate the opening of school in August of 2001. Total of 40,671 SF
